Food Scene

My favorite brunch spot, but they do not take reservations. Get there before 1pm. If it's a nice day out, sit out on their porch to people watch in the West Village.

Amazing french restaurant for brunch/dinner. Get there before 1pm for brunch or you could wait 45 minutes (still would be worth it).

Giant asian inspired restaurant. Don't let the glitz and glamour of this place fool you into thinking it's the only reason people go. The sushi here is amazing, as well as the main dishes. My parents lived in Asia and they think the Mongolian Beef dish at Tao is the best MB they've ever had. Get a reservation online but if you're having trouble making one, ask me since I'm friends with one of the owners.

By far my favorite Mexican restaurant. The steak tacos melt in your mouth. The brussels sprout tacos are a surprisingly great choice, as well.

Drinks & Nightlife

Great club at The Standard Hotel, with views of the skyline & empire state building. Mostly indoors, but they have a larte wrap around patio area.

A rooftop lounge with one of the best 360 views of the city. This place is more quiet, but Le Bain next store has more of a younger/trendy crowd on the weekends during the day/night. On Saturdays afternoons they have live jazz which creates the perfect scene. Can be a bit pricey, but well worth the scene for at least a drink or two.

Cool speakeasy! To get there, go through 5 Guys Burgers to the back where you'll see a staircase.

Sightseeing

They built the Highline on top of old railway tracks. All the greenery there are natural to the area (prior the city of course). As you walk, you'll see some of the best architecture and be able to peep into giant loft apartments (another favorite past time of a New Yorker).

Arts & Culture

The Whitney moved downtown to this new location. There are only a few floors of galleries, but the outdoor spaces, the architecture of the building and views of the city are what makes it so great.

Parks & Nature

Walk down 13th Street west to where it turns into Horatio. Keep on walking until you hit the river. Cross the West Side Highway to find the largest park outside of Central Park. This strip spans from the financial district all the way up to the 90's. You could even walk to 1 World Trade Center if you have time. Some of the piers along the way have mini golf, volley ball and some great playgrounds that will make even adults jealous. This is also where you'll find Grand Banks.
