The closest cafe. It is 7km away from Kleja. You can even walk there. Or ride a bike. Or drive a bus for 2 stops. Large plates, good prices, home made kind of food. Draft beer. Has terrace and also a tent. For vegans there is only fench fries and salads (but ask without beetroot salad). Well nothing fancy, but at least you can enjoy eating outside of yurt.

In the house Kuplejas that is located on the same road as we you can buy fresh vegetables and happy chicken eggs. You will recognize this house for chickens running outside. If you crave for some potatoes baked in the bonfire, just walk to this house 2 km away and get your veggies. You can get aluminium foil from us. :)

One of my most favorite terraces. Very nice design and tasty food. Sometimes waiting time is too long but it is worth it. Also have vegan options. Prices are not the cheapest but average.

Very cozy small garden cafe with nice terrace. Pets allowed. Have some vegan options. I am never disappointed in this place.

Huge portions. For all pork and chicken chop tastes. They also have a vegetarian chop option made from aubergine (but if you want this it is better to call before, they run out of it very quickly). They have 2 sizes available but even the smaller size is quite big.

Just 2.5 km walking distance from Kleja. You can swim in Eikažu pond (there are weeds covering the bottom of the lake). Here is the closest bus stop with regular traffic to Riga and Valmiera.

Small skatepark with wooden constructions (nothing really high) a rail and a box. Sometimes dirty and kids come here to play. So if you really want to ride, you will need to ask them to leave. Otherwise it is mostly almost empty.

Another skatepark. My favorite. Almost always empty. Good for beginners. Wooden constructions for different levels, a rail, 2 boxes, enough flat surface to learn. Constructions need some renovation. Located across Virši gas station on the highway.

Newly reopened skatepark and pump track in Sigulda.
Swimming
The best place for swimming in surroundings. 12 km from Kleja. Nice sandy ground (except for one side of the lake). Good foraging forest, bonfire places, tables. You can also hike around the lake.

Our most favorite hiking trail. Around 8km total but very scenic. Start at the bridge over river Gauja and follow river Loja till you reach abandoned bobsleigh track . Then you can go back to the car through the village by the new walking path. There are some cafes on the way. Not something we would recommend but cold beer and french fries is very nice after a hike.

The wildest hiking adventure. Just follow the river Brasla till river Gauja and then you can get back to the car by taking small forest roads. It will be around 25km but will take all day to hike because of the wild nature. There is no marked trail or sometimes no trail at all. Only for advanced hikers.

You can walk in 30 min from the yurt. Just follow red ribbons that will mark the way in the swamp. There is no trail but the walk is beautiful and quite easy.
If you are not careful, you might have wet feet - the walk will be through the wetland. Do not walk on places where you can obviously see the water through or that is not stable. The walk is safe but you need to watch where you step your feet.
You are responsible for your own safety! Have your phone with you in case of emergency or if you get lost.

Bīriņu Castle. Nice place to go for a walks in the park (more like a forest walk) with interesting objects and beautiful castle. You can also have a tour inside the castle. Entrance fee just for walking around 3Eur. Also possible to ride horses, rent a boat or go swimming. Have a restaurant inside the castle but you need to make a reservation but outside there is a tavern in the old mill with simple and traditional dishes (no vegan options), draft beer.

Quite far from us but we enjoy going to beach here. It is very unique place with sandstone cliffs.

But to get there I prefer using old ferry across the river Gauja. It is unforgettable experience.

Līgatne
Ligatne village is one of my most favorite places in Latvia. It is very tiny but so colorful with old architecture, walking paths, views, cliffs and nice cafes. They also have a local winery and you can try their wine.
But to get there I prefer using old ferry across the river Gauja. It is unforgettable experience.
Very touristy but still interesting place to visit if you like history and walks. There are a lot of hiking trails around.
