Walking on the main road to the right at about 300 meters you will reach the beach of Agios Prokopios with its famous crystal clear aquamarine waters. You can go to one of the Beach Bars that features like "Kalhua" and if you wish for more quiet you could go to the other side of the beach towards the chapel.

If you head out on the main road to the left in 1-1,5 km you will reach Plaka (you can go on foot or by bus). Lovely organized beach where you can enjoy your swim while there are plenty of options for water sports enthusiasts. I prefer "Mexican" “Picasso” (for dessert banofee), “Cedar” and “Yazoo” for coffee and drink.

You can not come to Naxos and do not visit Chora! There you will find everything. For swimming and water sports you can go to the organized beach of Agios Georgios. It is worth a walk in the streets of the Venetian Castle, a visit to the Archaeological Museum, a walk on the coast road and a sunset at Portara (Doorlike ruins of an ancient temple of Apollon standing on a scenic point looking over the city & sea). For cinema enthusiasts there is the open air cinema "Cine Naxos". For traditional products, visit the grocery "Tsiblakis", the store of Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Naxos and the "Koufopoulos" cheese shop. For food there are lots of choices for all tastes. I prefer "Yasouvlaki" for souvlaki, "Su e Giou" for pizza on the coast road, “Typografeio” for gourmet food inside the castle, for ouzo and fish there are many choises on the coast road and for traditional tastes "Maro’s" and "Elliniko". For ice cream in the well-known "Waffle House" and for pastry in the award-winning "Aktaion". It is worth to have a drink at "520", cocktail with citron at "Citron", more alternative coctails in "Swing" and for night club in "Ocean".

After Chalki you can go to Filoti with the characteristic platanos and the "Platanos Cafe" at the entrance of the village

Naxos is famous for its local products and good food. The island has many villages with traditional elements and taverns with local recipes and pure raw materials. I personally like Chalki (also known as Tragaia) where you will see the "Citron Valindra" distillery, you will taste delicious grilled at "Yannis" tavern, "Mitos" for pizza, “Cafe Greco” for coffee and ”Dolce Vita” for homemade sweets

In my village Koronos (homemade food in the "Matina-Stavros" and "Dallas" taverns and sweet in the "Perasma cafe").In 9 km from Koronos you can find Lyonas (food from Vaso’s hands to "Delphinaki" and Apollonas (homemade waffle in "Akrogiali"). It is also worth visiting the “Kalliopi tavern” between Halki and Moni and the "Giorgos" tavern in Melanes

Some words about Naxos

Naxos located in the centre of Cyclades, this is a wonderful island with long sandy beaches and interesting sightseeing. Holidays in Naxos is particularly perfect for families or romantic couples. The western side of the island is the most popular and has long sandy beaches lined up with seaside hotels, restaurants and water sports centers. The eastern side is more secluded and non-organized. A drive around the centre of the island brings visitors to traditional villages and interesting historical sites.

Archaeological sites

Apart from Chora, you will find places with archaeological and historical interest in other parts of the island. So it is worth visiting the Temple of Demeter in Sagri, Iria, the Kouros in Apollonas (called the Colossus of Dionysus, is a 10.7 metre tall unfinished statue of light grey Naxian marble with a weight of around 80 tonnes), the Kouros in Melanes, the prehistoric acropolis in Panormos, the Virgin Drosiani Monastery in the Moni (Ancient stone church with historic carvings & paintings, a bell tower & a cemetery) and the other Byzantine churches around Halki.

Beaches

On the west coast of the island, besides the beaches I mentioned above, it is worth visiting Orkos (mainly for water sports and swimming), Mikri Vigla and Alyko (you will also find the tavern "Axiotissa" with delicious greek food), Small Hawaii for those who do not want organized and noisy beaches. On the eastern coast - less tourist - you can go to Moutsouna, Psili Ammos, Panormos and to the north to Lyonas (pebble beach) and Apollonas.

Hiking and more

Naxos is a great island for windsurfing and kitesurfing as the wind conditions are perfect on the island. Also interesting are the Emery mines and the air train on the way to Lyonas and to Moutsouna. For the lovers of mountain routes and hiking, the island has a rich network of mapped paths at varying degrees of difficulty, while it is also worth climbing to the summit of Zas, on the highest mountain of Cyclades, yclades, from where the view of Naxos and the surrounding islands will impress you.
