Neighbourhoods

Sawtell is that lucky find on the North-East Coast of NSW. A laid-back beach town that soaks up the summer vibes all year-round! Its beaches are a prime spot for surfing, swimming and playing by the water’s edge whilst the surrounding dramatic hills contain excellent day hikes to stunning viewpoints and waterfalls. Sawtell’s heritage-village vibe echoes throughout the town from its laid-back cafes and eateries which spill out onto the sidewalk and serve up all the Aussie faves, to its beautiful art deco cinema and federation style Hotel pub. Mixed amongst these are boutique stores and beauty spas, a cool cocktail bar opposite a bustling wine bar with live music two nights a week. But to finish those perfect sun kissed days, check out the southern headland, a popular family gathering spot for sundowners and takeaway pizza. Both Sawtell and Coffs Harbour have great golf courses, easy to access and fun to play. Whilst just 10 minutes away is Australia’s championship course, Bonville Golf Resort, voted Australia’s leading golf resort four times. If tennis is your thing, Sawtell has 12 tennis courts, 8 clay and 4 synthetic grass, and not far down the road is Jacks Ridge Mountain Bike Park, a network of 14km+ of hand-built mountain bike trails with something suitable for every ability.

A trip to the cinema

This historic art deco cinema was saved via crowd funding and is now owned and run by the locals. Showing the latest movies, they have all the usual kids treats and for the adults, coffee or wine served in a glass, which is a nice treat on a wet day!

Book a table for dinner

Eating out in Sawtell is great fun and often means eating out-out, as in, on the street. So my advice is book a table in advance to avoid disappointment, our first port of call is always the Spare Room on First Avenue, and secondly take a jumper or something so you can enjoy being out-out!
