Excellent home cooked style Italian food. Close by and a lovely 10 minute scenic country drive. In summer you can sit out on the deck by the pond. A little pricey, but a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Excellent home made deserts!

Nice restaurant right on the Hudson River, but it is only open during summer months. There’s a small pavilion out back with a few tables that sits beside the water and is a great place to eat where you can watch the boats go by. About a 20 min drive.

A bit further out, but a lovely drive. This place has a charming hand sculpted interior and in summer you can sit out back on the terrace which overlooks the Catskill Creek. The Yellow Deli is one of many such restaurants created and owned by the twelve tribes, which is an odd religious cult who has members and communities across the globe. They often can be found with their bus at music festivals recruiting lost souls into their community. Don’t worry, it’s safe to just go for lunch and not be brainwashed! They are friendly and the place is very creatively decorated. Not many options for vegetarians but they raise their meat on their farm and make tasty baked goods.

Hiking and swimming

Favorite local swimming holes and beautiful places to hike
A beautiful secluded lake in a public park, just 1.5 miles from here. A good place to kayak, fish and have a picnic. Local people swim here, although there are signs that say no swimming. We swim here often. There are no life guards.

Katterskill is a remote and impressive waterfall with a strenuous hiking path that takes you top of the falls where you will find a refreshing swimming hole. This is a great place to go on weekdays but it tends to be crowded on weekends and holidays. Parking is limited. The drive to the falls is breathtaking and there are a few quaint little towns in the area.

Located in Voorheesville, about 1/2 hour from the farm, this unique yarn shop is owned by my friend Cece, a local sheep farmer, who sells a variety of locally produced yarns and equipment to hand process fiber. She has a second shop next door, where classes are held for weaving and knitting and all sorts of yarn and fiber related projects. Cece taught me most of what I know about spinning, dying and weaving the fiber from our angora goats and I have bought most of my equipment from her as well.

Craziest hair salon on earth! Janet is incredibly entertaining and talented, you won’t be disappointed! Her shop is so unique, there is so much to look at and she’s hilarious, smart and will make you look amazing! She sells lots of natural hair products and will be opening a vintage clothing shop in an old bread truck in her parking lot next summer.
