Conwy and Surrounding Areas

Conwy is a fantastic base from which to explore all that North wales has to offer. Maybe plan a visit to some of the places that are included within this guide. We do suggest a visit to the local Tourist Information Centre which is loaded with leaflets and ideas on where to visit. There is an array of restaurants and eateries; some local and some further afield. There are a few mentioned here, which all come highly recommended; but there are dozens and dozens to choose from in Conwy and its surrounding areas. You can also find a guide to the best beaches to visit, and also parks etc that are great for all ages.
Journey back in time to a medieval walled town lined with age old cobblestones, stunning scenery and a backdrop domineered by the historic Conwy castle. Conwy today can lay claim to preserved history almost second to none; its old streets and ginnels are virtually unchanged to the present day; Conwy Town is truly an exceptional base from where to explore all that North Wales and beyond has to offer. You can expect quaint artisan shops, bakeries and butchers all thriving, with both local and tourist trade. Art galleries, visitor centres, and old fashioned toy shops selling traditional toys and of course the obligatory buckets, spades and crab dipping equipment...which is a national past time in Conwy! There are plenty of bars, restaurants and eateries within the town walls itself, so great for stepping out without having to use a car or grabbing a taxi. For places further afield there is a bus route and small train station. Of course Conwy is surrounded by beaches and has a bustling quay and busy marina. So you can sit back with a drink and simply watch the boats come in. Both ‘Jackdaws Nest’ and Telford House; are located within the town walls, nestled in a quiet cobbled street. No matter which you choose, both delightful properties provides a fantastic base from which to spend a week in this sought after location.

Voted one of the best seaside towns in the UK 2021 by Tripadvisor, Llandudno is certainly worth a visit. Just under four miles from Conwy, Llandudno is a bustling and thriving tourist destination. Perhaps most famous for the pier, which is the longest in Wales (a recent TV programme series has made it even more known) this delightful Victorian pier remains unchanged in over a decade. You will find arcades, funfair rides, chip shop, and fresh seafood stalls, and a bar right at the very end. Also during the summer months the 'Llandudno eye' where you can take a ride on the large wheel to really capture the views. The Great Orme is also hugely popular; a ride from the town right to the top is not to be missed. Or there is a chance to see this amazing area from the cable cars which pass over it. Keep an eye out for the famous Llandudno goats, made famous worldwide during the lockdown. You can visit the summit cafe, play crazy golf, or even try your hand at skiing on the dry slope.

For those who want to experience the beauty of North Wales then a visit to some of the towns and villages in Snowdonia National Park would be high on the tick list. The coastal roads span miles and miles of beaches, and more remote country roads have spectacular scenery. The drive from Conwy through to Llanberis should take on average 50 minutes. From here you can then take on Mount Snowdon itself (Yr Wyddfa). Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales, at an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level, and the highest point in the British Isles outside the Scottish Highlands. Taking between 5-6 hours to get up and down, Snowdon is quite accessible to most, however mustn't be taken lightly. It is essential to wear the right clothing and footwear, and ensure the weather is good on the day you are planning to visit. Dozens of walkers get caught out every year, and some unfortunately with dire consequences. For those who like a more leisurely pace, opt for the mountain railway which climbs to the summit café.
