Cheerwine soft drinks. Born in the south. Raised in a glass.

Cheerwine is an iconic Salisbury, North Carolina product that tends to confuse newcomers — most likely because of its unusual name. Despite its moniker, Cheerwine contains zero alcohol. L.D. Peeler created Cheerwine in 1917 in Salisbury, North Carolina amid a sugar shortage. His drive to start his own soft drink led him to a salesman from St. Louis who sold him a wild cherry flavor that blended well with other flavors. With the perfect taste secured, he needed a name. With a burgundy-red color and cheery disposition, the name "Cheerwine" simply made sense. It is a one of a kind taste.

This Airbnb. The Historic O.O. Rufty Building

This Airbnb is located in the Rufty Building, named for the O.O. Rufty General Store that built and operated in the 12,000 sq. ft. three story building from 1922-2002. When the Rufty's closed the store, it was the longest continuously operating general store in N. Carolina. Steven Spielberg photographed the store to build a Hollywood set for the movie 'The Color Purple" After a devastating fire several years after Rufty's closed, the building was adaptively rebuilt using Historic Investment Tax Credits. It now has five apartments, one retail space and 27 climate controlled storage units.
