This ramshackle, cozy, but charming little spot is located in a former home. The food is consistently good, the waitresses are beyond sweet (and will often sing to patrons just because), and the prices are reasonable.

Named after the legendary French king famous for his charitable acts, St. Louis Catholic Church is a little slice of Europe in Texas! The "new" St. Louis Catholic Church was founded by Alsatian immigrants nearly 150 years ago. The original St. Louis Catholic Church, which still stands on the grounds of the Moye Retreat Center, dates back still further. Fun fact: The home's front porch comprises stone that formed the foyer of this original church (!)

For nearly two centuries, pilgrims and trekkers have walked the challenging Cross Hill Loop Trail to reach the top, where a massive cross and glorious views of the Hill Country await. My understanding is that mass and prayer services were regularly held at the cross in the past, with settlers often praying for blessings (read: rain!) on their home and fields.
