The woodland park next door. Walking, cycling & horse riding for all. Take a long walk down to the Grand Union canal & along the banks towards London, or take a short stroll around the wood, & maybe spot a few film locations as you go.

Neighbourhoods

This is a small, quiet hamlet once home to a corn chandler who was the heart of the farming community that lived here, & which gave it its name. Now mostly residential, there are still beautiful walks, bike and horse rides to be had in the area, taking in the Grand Union canal, woodland & fields. The Prime Steakhouse occupies the building that was once the local pub, & we are close to Watford, Croxley Green & Rickmansworth for those needing town amenities without heading into London.

Watford is our nearest large town. It has a shopping mall, multiplex cinema, restaurants, bars, & coffee shops. If you need to shop for something other than food, this is the closest place to go. Watford also has the main hospital with emergency care for the area, on Vicarage Road. It is also home to the local football team, Watford FC.

Conseils aux voyageurs

Se déplacer dans les environs

For going to London, we recommend taking the underground

The nearest underground stations to us are Croxley, Rickmansworth, & Watford, which are all on the Metropolitan Line. You can also take overground services from Watford Junction to Euston. An Oyster Card is the best value method of getting around, but contactless cards are also accepted on London Underground, buses, trams & Dockland Light Railway.
Réservez avant de partir

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

This needs to be booked ahead, & the tour bus to the studios leaves from Watford Junction station. Worth it for any Potter fan.

Travel savings

Off peak travel on London Transport is advised, not only to save money but to avoid crowds. We don’t advise driving into London unless you absolutely have to- it’s busy, parking isn’t easy, & there are extra charges for those travelling into the centre of the city.

Museums

The big museums in South Kensington (the Natural History, Science, & V&A museums) are all free except for special exhibitions, as are the British Museum on Great Russell Street; Tates (Britain, on Millbank, & Modern, opposite the reconstruction of Shakespeare’s Globe); & National Galleries, on Trafalgar Square.

Travelling on the tube

Stand on the left on escalators on the underground, don’t linger at ticket gates or by bus & tube doors (it will probably get you a sharp word.) At rush hour, the underground is packed, & can get very close & hot. Carry water & if you feel ill, get off at the next station.

Shopping

The nearest large town to us is Watford, where there is a shopping mall with a variety of shops.
