Sightseeing

Great local walk around 10 mins drive away with ancient yew trees and, after a climb, stunning views of the South Downs and the coast. Small car park can be problematic at weekends. The Horse and Groom Pub in Funtington is also recommended for food and a great atmosphere.

If you want a great local walk, turn right out of the house and right at the end of Fishbourne Road East. Continue under underpass and along Main Road and then turn left at The Bull's Head down Mill Lane. There is a gorgeous pond at the bottom with lots of bird life. Turn left at the end of Mill Lane (through the metal gate) and there is a small path with a stream on your left. This will take you to Fishbourne Meadows. Follow your nose keeping the water to your right and the first small village you'll arrive at is Dell Quay. This is a great walk and The Crown and Anchor has a gorgeous outside area overlooking the harbour. You could also continue along the shingle and then take a left up a concrete slope and then right at the top and this will bring you to a path leading all the way to Chichester Harbour with the Boat House Cafe which is also recommended.

One of Chichester's most famous sightseeing opportunities. An outstanding example of a Roman Palace with lovely gardens too.

The most famous local beach although do book the car park in advance in summer as it can get very busy. Beautiful sandy beach with a great cafe and toilets and a large car park. Very safe for families and is lifeguarded. Shingle beaches but just as lovely can be found at Pagham and Bracklesham Bay (try Billy's On The Beach but do book in advance!).

City/town information

You can walk easily in to the city. Turn right out of the property and then left in to Fishbourne Road East. At the end walk over the railway bridge and turn right keeping the school on your left. Go straight over the roundabout ahead and follow Westgate all the way in to the city. The cathedral, the market cross, the Novium Museum and the shopping are all wonderful and there are many restaurants including a brand new Ivy Brasserie.
