Neighborhoods

The "Farmhouse in the Sky" apartment is situated in a Tito- era late 1970s tower block served by an elevator with pin key (which we provide) above the city's most famous bakery, Furra Lumi (which is the best reference to give taxis) and looks out onto the hill of the Aktash neighbourhood while immediately to its other side is the university park, containing the unique National Library and the national gallery, through which the heart of Prishtina - the pedestrian "Sheshi" - is just a 10-minute walk away. The immediate environs feature the Slovenian embassy, two good "Meridian" supermarkets, a well stocked fresh greengrocery store and a pharmacy and many cafes, among which Olive is another recently opened bakery with perfect coffee, croissant & bagels. Nearby good value eateries include Extreme Kitchen, located right next door, offering famous national dishes (tave Elbasani, sarma, dolma, turshi) in a modern public kitchen (gjelltore) style, while within a 10-minute walk in Aktash the restaurants Sonder, Alegro, and A&A are recommended. Further facilities include the full gym of the Grand Hotel across the university park, the city park with good playground 12 minutes-walk away, the nearby Californian-trained "Smile" dentist practice, designer hairdresser Alban Avdullahu, good clothes, laundary and other repair services. Prishtina is generally a safe a place to be, but this neighborhood in particular is well lit and buzzing with people - the university campus nearby. Getting around To get to our "Farmhouse in the Sky" flat, tell the taxi drivers to bring you to Furra (Bakery) Lumi (which is well-known) or the Slovenian embassy. If you take a bus, get off at the Ministry of Education or at the National Library bus stop on Agim Ramadani Street. You can take a bus to different ends of the town from these nearby bus stops. A taxi to the airport costs 15 euros. Bikes can be stored in the building. Driving is not recommended as you are in walking distance of most things, but if you do bring a car, you can park it in the paid parking in the end of the dead-end road next to Taunita restaurant.

If you have to make one trip in Kosovo to understand the history of this country, go and see the complex where more than 50 people, mostly women and children, were killed by Serbian paramilitaries in a battle that took place 4-5 march 1998.
