This is a hole-in-the-wall place and not a great in-house dining experience, but the Poke is phenomenal. FOB stands for Fresh Off the Boat, and it definitely tastes that way! I recommend using take out and enjoying it here in Chelsea Suite or in a nearby park. You can also use Grubhub to have it delivered.

Taylor Shellfish farms and harvests shellfish commercially and this location is a store that has a small dining section. You can pick your shellfish and crab or ask them to do so. And if you’d like, they’ll shuck it and serve you a great wine paring, so you can enjoy the freshest sushi you’ll ever have. My favorite is the scallops.

Ray’s in Ballard has gorgeous views and great seafood. The dining room is more formal (in Seattle, this means nice jeans and a button down shirt). However my favorite is the outdoor Cafe. It overlooks the Puget Sound and the entry to the Ballard Locks, so there’s a gorgeous view of the Sound and boats of all kinds. The food is more casual and fantastic. If it’s cold out, they have blankets and turn on outdoor heaters. When it’s raining they tent the dining space.

This chef is James Beard awarded and my favorite chef in Seattle. His downtown restaurant, Rider, sadly closed at the very beginning of the pandemic and he didn’t reopen it. When I think of hiking, I don’t typically think of botanical gardens, but this huge in-city park has multiple trails and so much to offer. Nearly all of the park is free to see, so there’s no need to pay to see the Japanese botanical garden, however that’s quite beautiful, too. In the main park (not the Japanese garden) you can hike out to Lake Washington and continue on a lake trail over floating pedestrian bridges, as well.
