Have a typical Peka-dish from the grill in their enchanted garden. (Peka should be ordered beforehand) It is recommendable to make a reservation for a table in the garden, too.

Conseils aux voyageurs

Se déplacer dans les environs

Car or scooter

We do recommend to rent a car or scooter.(in case you don‘t come by car.) Unfortunately, there is no public transportation other than taxis to Rudina (from the ferry port in Stari Grad to Rudina it's €25-€35). Also, you will most likely want to explore the island. :)

Croatia is a Catholic country

Even though you will see quite many people walking around in the city only in their bikinis or trunks, it is a bit rude for the locals. In Hvar you might even be fined.

Akcija in super markets

When you go grocery shopping, watch out for the akcija tags 🏷 also cheese and coldcuts are of better quality and mostly cheaper at the counter!

Hrvatski Zvukopis Art Project urban stories

There is an art project offering a mobile application with soundscripts of unpublished short urban stories by Croatian authors. You can listen to them by activating your geolocation in the app (hrvatski-zvukopis app) and by walking through the streets of the cities. (Hvar town, Stari Grad, Jelsa, Vrboska)

How to get to Hvar island

Most tourists come by car or by plane. In both cases, the majority arrives in Split and then takes a ferry or catamaran from the ferry port. The car ferry arrives in Stari Grad. The catamaran goes to either Hvar town or Jelsa. There is also a car ferry from Drvenik to Sućuraj. Sućuraj is on the eastern end of the island of Hvar and the trip from there to Stari Grad takes approx. one hour. All ferry trips are provided by the staterun Jadrolinija hr, you can find all schedules online and even book your ticket online. And there are also private (speed boat) transfers at higher costs.

Tourism on the Croatian islands is seasonal

Most places, including shops, restaurants, boutiques, etc. open around May and close in October or November. The island is very different off-season, very calm, but also has its charms.
Manières d'économiser

Think about renting a car from the mainland

Especially if you stay for a longer period and are planning to rent a car to get around on the island, it might be cheaper to rent it in Split and bring it to the island.
