This is a pleasant 20-30 minute drive away. It is also easily reached by bus or train. It is where Scotland’s famous declaration of freedom, the Declaration of Arbroath, was signed. A visit here could be combined with a trip to the cliffs and the harbour. (See listings)

This is probably the most famous golf course in Scotland, if not the world! Getting to play it requires evidence of your handicap plus luck in a public ballot for tee times. However anyone can walk it on a Sunday, for free! Take photos, or selfies of the famous Swilken Bridge. Enjoy the bracing sea air and the iconic views. Easy to reach by car, but parking might be difficult. However there are buses every 10 minutes from Dundee bus station, and the course is a short walk from St Andrews bus station.

Great views of the city from here. Limited parking at the top. If you have the energy, park at the bottom and walk up (it only takes a few minutes and there is a marked path and stairs).

Going to City Centre

The best way to get to the city centre is to walk along the riverside towards the V & A, and then turn right and walk through the gardens. You will see the rear of the Caird Hall with Brasserie Ecosse and St Andrews Brewing Company underneath. The City Square is in front of the Caird Hall, with the main shopping precincts across the way and to right and left.

Bus and Rail stations

The Railway Station is about 7 minutes walk away, opposite the V & A. The Bus Station is a similar distance, but reached by walking up West Victoria Dock Road, past the Apex Hotel, crossing the main road at the pedestrian crossing, and continuing north up Trades Lane.

Food shopping

By car, you can reach Tesco supermarket (open late, 7 days a week) by driving up West Victoria Dock Road, turning left, and following signs to Perth. You pass the V&A, a go straight on at the lights, continue past the first roundabout and you’ll see the supermarket on your right. Turn right at the second roundabout into the car park. Fuel is also available there. On foot, there is an M&S food store at Gallagher Retail Park (visible from the apartment) about 10 minutes walk away. The main M&S is between Seagate and Murraygate. Go to the bus station, turn left and cross the road to see it
