Beaches

Ardwell Bay is 10 miles from the house and is easy to reach by car or bicycle. The beach is stunning in all weathers, with endless white sand, rock pools and enough driftwood to make a fire and cook a beach bbq.
A stunning white sands beach thats well worth the ten mile drive or cycle from the house. There are no facilities on this beach so be sure to pack a picnic or better still take a cool box of BBQ food and collect driftwood from the far end of the beach.

Sightseeing

This beach is incredible and can be reached by a ten minute car ride from the house or on foot along the coastal path in Port Patrick. Check the tides before you go and be there two hours before low tide. The rock pools are filled with life and the walk along the beach is stunning. Take a wetsuit for a swim, a paddle board or kayak and relax into the day. As the tide comes in, retreat to the grass and rocks and watch as the sun sets against the backdrop of this stunning beach and lighthouse.

The Mull of Galloway is the southernmost point of Scotland and is worth the 30 minute drive to get there. On a clear day you can see views of Ireland, The Isle of Man and Cumbria. Take your binoculars as there are so many sea birds to watch. The lighthouse is only open at certain times so check the website. There is a great cafe at the car park, but again, check opening times so that you wont be disappointed.

The Botanical gardens are just incredible. There are so many amazing plants to see in hidden corners and through tunnels and domes. The pond is a must see with its' resident coy carp, beautiful to sit and watch. There is a lovely cafe serving the best home made cakes and seasonal savoury dishes. Only service dogs are allowed so if you want to take your woof along, visit the next door Logan gardens instead.

You can pick up this walk that goes from East to West in lots of places. We tend to drive out and park at Glenluce and pick it up from there. You can walk for miles and rarely pass a car or a person! There is a small shop in Glenluce if you need to stock up on supplies as there isnt anything on the route.

Loch views and walks

The first time we saw this place we could not believe how beautiful it is. It takes around fifty minutes to drive there from the house but it is absolutely worth it. There are walks around the loch or if you fancy a challenge there is the hike to the top of Merrick, passing by Bruce's stone along the way. There is a National Trust car park and cafe at the bottom so you can stock up on drinks and snacks before you go. There are some great bike paths round the loch and kayaks and canoes for hire. If you are brave enough, there is a bothy on the walk up towards Merrick where you can stay overnight.
