Town 30 min from the city by train. Walk along the beach, eat from the 'lobster shack' right on the harbour. Bird activity on Bass Rock is visible with binoculars from the shore but even better to arrange a boat tour to the largest gannet colony anywhere in the world.
Nearby Tantallon Castle is worth visiting.
