Food Scene

Hands down Uncle Jacks is our favourite cafe in Ocean Grove - Great space, best coffee and delicious food. It’s also about a 10-15min walk from Beach Break @ Barramundi in the main street of Ocean Grove so a nice place to walk to. If you’ve got a sweet tooth you’ll also find Uncle Donuts co-located here.

Our second favourite, Kyosk is a wholefoods cafe that make the most amazing healthy brunches and lunches, coffee here is great too and they’re co-located with a yoga studio.

This place is so tiny and tucked away in an arcade that you’d easily miss it and thats a shame because their coffee is awesome! They use padre coffee. They have a small, but tasty menu and some areas to sit and eat but we tend to come here just for coffee and opt for one of the other options when we are having a sit down meal.

Driftwood Cafe has great food at great value, you get more for your money here and if we are up for a bigger breakfast this is where we will go. For those Melbourne coffee afficionados (we moved from Melbs so we still class ourselves as this!) you might not be completely satisfied with the drop but it’s still okay coffee.

Try the squishy or squashy - two variations of your basic egg and bacon roll, super cheap, super delicious, super satisfying! Coffee here is okay, but not amazing, if you’re a large weak flat white type you’ll be happy, if your a long black type not so much. Their muffins are delicious too and for those with kiddies - free bubbachinos!!! If you are after a better coffee in Barwon Heads walk approx 150m up the street to Barwon Orange.

We can’t describe how awesome this place is for those with toddlers. Great coffee and both indoor and outdoor play options to keep the little ones entertained. The food portions are not large by cafe standards but this is reflected in the price and it’s pretty inexpensive to eat here. They also do a ploughman platter for the kids that is about $5. Dog friendly area at the front of the cafe.

It will take you about 15 minutes to get to Picnic Time by car from Beach Break @ Barramundi as it’s in neighbouring suburb Drysdale, it is worth the visit though. The food and coffee are both really great here and generous serves. Picnic time has a small indoor play are with a ball pit to keep the little ones entertained. Like Hello Birdie they also have a kids platter option that is good value. Part of the cafe is dedicated to showcasing local handmakers wares and you can find some really gorgeous local handmade items, there is also a lolly cart (think old school milkbar).

Might seem strange recommending that you take your kids to the pub, but theres a bunch of outdoor trampolines and play equipment to keep the kids occupied. Food here is good, standard pub fare. You’ll need to drive, but it’s only approx 5 mins by car from Beach Break @ Barramundi..

an Ocean Grove institution, too many media write-ups to mention for this place, it definately is worth checking out. They do awesome burgers and you can’t go past the classic chips and gravy.

The local pie shop and a bloody good one at that. Their pies have won so many awards and it is no wonder because they are delicious! We’d recommend the Country Lamb and Rosemary (Officially judged Australias best gourmet pie 2016).

We literally have an amazing winery 5 minutes drive from here. The cellar door is open daily from 10am-4pm and tastings are $5. They also have a beautiful restaurant and use only local and regional produce with both a la carte and degustation menus. Bookings are required. Address is 255 Grubb Rd, Wallington, Ocean Grove

Napona is unexpectedly good. The venue itself is pretty understated but the food is absolutely amazing. They do a seasonal five course degustation menu for $70 pp or if you add in wine pairings its $100pp. This is definately a local secret, bookings are required.

Across the bridge and in Barwon Heads, located on a jetty overlooking the water, this place definately takes the prize for most beautiful setting. Bookings are required.
