Lovely tearoom in the castle walls, 25 minutes' walk from home, through Bute Park. It’s also right by the water taxi which takes you down to Cardiff Bay.

Lovely French restaurant with good sized portions. It’s a chain restaurant – but really doesn’t feel like it.
It has an excellent pre-theatre deal for 2 courses for £14.95 before 6.45pm.

Really fun bar to throw some shapes on the dancefloor - wearing the sombreros they hand out and shaking your maracas (not a euphemism!) Also does lethal cocktails in teapots.

Our local. It’s quite trendy and the drinks aren’t overly expensive. They sometimes have live music, or they have a live music, or they have a good stock of boardgames and a nice menu.

The most fun way to get to the Bay is by water taxi. The little boat leaves from Bute Park (CF10 1BJ) and costs £3 and runs at half past the hour between 10.30 and 4.30pm.

If you fancy seeing a bit of the Welsh coastline whilst you’re here we recommend going to Merthyr Mawr. It’s a 25 mins walk through the sand dunes to get to the beach which is usually almost deserted.
