Sightseeing
To get a good feel for Portland, I recommend walking to the waterfront park or Eastside's Esplanade. The views of the city are great from the East, & the people watching is outstanding along the West.

The Eastside Esplanade offers a great view of Downtown Portland, if you travel from the Steel Bridge south you can cross the river over the Hawthorne Bridge and walk to Waterfront Park.
