A Georgian town with fairs and festivals during the year. Independant shops and tearooms, our favourite is Gillams. Ulverston is about 25 miles by road or just under one hour and twenty minutes of scenic rail travel on the Cumbrian Coast Line from Drigg Station.

Parks & Nature
Wasdale is a scenic valley with Wastwater the deepest lake in England, Scafell Pike the highest peak in England and more including Great Gable. I've included Romance as a key word as we had house guests who got engaged at the top of Scafell Pike and are now married :)

Beautiful valley with the River Esk running through, wonderful riverside walks and more challenging hikes too. Leads to the steepest hill in England, the Hardknott Pass (not for nervous drivers) and the ruins of the Hardknott Roman Fort.

Drigg Railway on the Cumbrian Coast line. Local service with trains up to four carriages long, with sea views for much of the route travelling between Barrow (for Lancaster) and Carlisle. Links with Virgin West Coast line at Lancaster or Carlisle. No Sunday service to Drigg station at the moment, I have been told there should be a Sunday service sometime in 2017!
