Paia is a tourist town. Was in disrepair after the cannery closed but the hippies who moved to Maui in the 60's eventually bought up little stores, turning them into boutiques and souvenir shops. Now a flourishing town with restaurants, shops, just a fun place to walk around.

This is the best luau on Maui in my opinion. Must make reservations early to get a seatting.

There are hiking and walking trails. There is a park located right before the state park with replicated houses depicting the Portuguese, Japanese, Hawaiian, Chinese homes that represent the melting pot of Hawaii.

Everywhere you look is black lava. You can look up the hill to see where the lava erupted thru the cone. After driving on the road thru the lava fields, there is a walking trail and beaches.

Watch the sunrise from this point of view. Must leave condo around 3:30 a.m. for this drive up the mountain. Make sure you have warm clothes as it gets really cold up there. There are rare occasions of snow at the crate so the road might be closed for safety reasons. And I believe you now have to have reservations. Look in the yellow pages of the phone book.

The road to Hana gives the best scenery on the island. Be advised this is a very narrow, windy road. Use caution.

Costco is located near the airport so it is handy for shopping prior going to the condo. I want to caution about buying too much food if only staying a short while. I usually shop at Safeway because I tend to buy too much at Costco
