You may be in for a conference, or coming to a show here. The St. John's Convention Centre hosts great local acts like Hey Rosetta, or great Canadian/international music. Book in advance, even though its a big venue, the shows can sell out!

Sightseeing

A registered heritage building, right across the street, construction started on this beautiful church in 1855, but it wasn't complete until 1881. This is a Catholic church, if you're a churchgo-er check out their Sunday service. If not, the building itself is worth poking your head in.

Wesley United Church hosts lots of events open to the community outside their congregation. If you're adventurous, they host a seal flipper dinner. If you like the classic goods, they host turkey dinners. Google them to see the schedule.

The Martin MacNamara house was likely built in the 1700s, due to the style of the home. The House was constructed on the Brine's family farm, then bought by fisherman, Martin MacNamara in 1857 and used as a private residence (still today).

The building has been home to many creative groups pushing the boundaries of Arts and Culture in St. John's. Now it's home to The Overcast, Newfoundland's only cultural newspaper, and the Idea Factory, a creative agency. It was once where the famed Christina Parker Gallery was and the architect Beaton Sheppard worked on many of his iconic buildings.

Shopping

This is my favourite of a number of antique shops on the West End of Water. This one has lots of great keepsakes that you could bring with you. While some are collected locally, the owner buys things from all around Canada. Worth a browse with a coffee!

Food Scene

Tim's is a chain yes, and their coffee is dividing. Not for coffee snobs, but there are also those who swear by it. Great for a quick and reliable pick me up on the way to the airport.

Their slogan is loud but lively, and the buzz of this place makes you feel like you're in a much bigger city. The food and drinks are amazing and as long as you're not looking for a quiet place to have a conversation, this is great for some apps and drinks or many small plates to make up a dinner.

Parks & Nature

Lovely neighbourhood park that has (and still is) undergoing big renovations to make it even better. Open during renovations, this is a great spot to take a book, a frisbee or a picnic!
