For a very special meal, try Thompsons. The tasting menu is fabulous. A small but perfectly formed restaurant with lovely staff who make you feel so welcome. Expensive but worth it!

Shopping
The best village shop I have ever come across. Fresh fruit and veg, local meat, friendly helpful staff. Very rarely do they not have what I want. I do most of my shopping here now.

Really a country park for children but lovely for adult too. Tree walks, tobogan ride, birds of prey displays. Mixture of forest and parkland with lots to do. Take your own picnic and enjoy the day.

Steep but amazing walk up to the Tennyson Monument from Freshwater Bay. Bracing on a windy day but awesome views.

A little cheat here, but if you love nature then you will love The Little Barn. Wildlife is encouraged here and we are right next to great walking trails and cycling routes. The cottage is big enough that on rainy days you can enjoy the peace and quiet from inside, play games, watch tv or just read.

Wonderful castle with gardens. In the summer they have jousting displays. Walk round the castle battlements for great views. See donkeys pulling water up from the well.
