This is an actual building where you can catch ferries, but it is much more than that. There is a marketplace full of local vendors and is a great place to go to sample lots of different local places. There is also a Farmer's Market several times a week.
Very accessibly by public transportation - just take BART to the Embarcadero stop and walk a few blocks east. I would recommend starting a day here and the spending an afternoon walking down the Embarcadero.

Ferry Building
1 The EmbarcaderoThis is an actual building where you can catch ferries, but it is much more than that. There is a marketplace full of local vendors and is a great place to go to sample lots of different local places. There is also a Farmer's Market several times a week.

Park right by the ocean. Stunning views of the beach and of the Golden Gate Bridge. Check out the old Sutro Baths ruins on the beach, the cave, and the rock labyrinth. Free to go, but parking can get crowded on the weekends.

Public beach the stretches along the whole west side of SF. Great place to hang out and take a long walk on the beach. During summer and fall evenings, there are lots of bonfires -
a great way to meet locals. Just remember to bring a jacket because it gets cold!
