Host for good
Tens of thousands of people are fleeing Afghanistan right now. There is an urgent need for temporary emergency housing for families as they resettle in a new place.
You can choose to offer your space exclusively for free emergency stays by creating a new listing on Airbnb.org or if you already have an Airbnb listing, you can make your space available for free or discounted emergency stays.
Airbnb.org has committed to providing stays for 20,000 Afghan refugees. By hosting for free or at a discount, you can help house even more people.

Nonprofit refugee resettlement agencies make bookings on behalf of refugee guests. They communicate house rules and instructions to guests, and assist them throughout the stay, including with any language barrier.
Refugee guests generally do not have their own Airbnb accounts. This means they may not have agreed to the Airbnb Terms of Service and may not have gone through all of Airbnb's standard account holder procedures and screening processes.
All guests eligible for refugee housing are recognized refugees, and/or are in the process of seeking asylum, Special Immigrant Visa (SIV), or other immigration status designations with a similar humanitarian purpose.
Just as with other bookings, the Host Guarantee provides damage protection for your property and belongings, with certain restrictions.
If you choose to offer your space at a discount, you will be able to set your own charitable rate. This is so you can support new families arriving in your community while still covering your costs of hosting.
Here’s what you need to know about setting your rate:
- The charitable rate must be less than your current average daily rate. We encourage you to price your listing as low as possible, so that nonprofit funds can be stretched to help house more people.
- If you offer your home at a discount, you will still receive your cleaning fee. Listings offered free of charge are exempt of cleaning fees.
- If you offer your home at a discount, normal taxes apply.
- Airbnb waives all service fees for Airbnb.org Hosts and guests.
- Smart pricing and discounts are not applied.
Manage your calendar
Your listing will have the same calendar for both Airbnb and Airbnb.org stays, so if it’s been booked by other Airbnb guests, it will not be available for emergency stays on those dates and vice versa. Learn more about managing your calendar.
