A great restaurant within fairly easy walking distance of the apartment. Groupon deals are often available. Brunch is the best deal in Astoria, comes with large entree, side and drink for around $15.

They are tight about security, so try to avoid bringing a bag with a lot of pockets or bottled water.

A new speakeasy on Ditmars Blvd. The front is designed to look like a hardware store (Square Hardware), but ring the bell and it's a swanky bar. Drinks are expensive but worth at least trying one. The Mumbai Daquiri is my personal favorite.

Parks & Nature
Astoria park is about 10 minutes away. A beautiful park with a running track and public swimming pool. The pool runs along the East river and there are some nice views walking along the water.
