The best restaurants (not only) in the area.
A very good place for meat. The owner is a funny guy creating a familiar, relaxed, often ironic Tuscan experience. Closed on Tuesday

Our restaurant in Florence. We decided to open this short-chain restaurant where we cook the meat of our cows and the white truffle harvested on the property (a seasonal product, available between October and January). Built inside a former garden house, our restaurant with view on Florence offers revisited dishes of the Tuscan tradition and a wide selection of vegetarian options. Call before going.

Sightseeing

A beautiful hilltop town with loads of history. Hike up to the old tower (rebuilt after its destruction in WWII) and have a picnic on the grassy lawn overlooking the surrounding valleys - at sunset! In November weekends they organize one of the biggest Italian truffle fairs.

Dominated by numerous towers, San Gimignano is a breathtaking nearby village, though it can get quite touristy during the season. Make sure to wander off the main street to get a sense of the town’s charm. We suggest a visit to Galleria Continua, one of Italy’s most important contemporary art galleries. Don’t miss an Ice Cream at Dondoli’s (located in the Cisterna square): it’s probaby one of the best gelaterie in Tuscany. Restaurant suggested from our guests: Cum Quibus.

A unique and imposing village, where alabaster is mined. The Roman ruins are a must-see and we highly suggest a walk to all the gates of the village, some which have sections dating from the Etruscan period.

Certaldo’s pride and joy is the famous Italian poet Bocaccio and everyone in the town centre seems to have a favorite anecdote about the mischievious Renaissance writer. The historic centre is set on a hill overlooking the new town where you need to park. Take the funiculare to the top or walk up the short but steep path through the olive groves. During the second week of July you can see it under the magic light of Mercantia, one of the biggest Street Art Festivals in Italy.

A walled city located a 1.5 hour drive away, Lucca is effortlessly charming. It has a renowned antiques market on the 2nd Saturday and 3rd Sunday of the month. We highly suggest beginning your visit with a walk or ride around the walls surrounding the historic centre; bicycle hire shops are located everywhere throughout town. It is also home to an important italian comics fair: Lucca Comics (first days of November). Restaurant suggested from our guests: Osteria Baralla in Via dell’Anfiteatro.
