Medieval villages and cities of art

Maybe the smallest medieval village which still preserve entire circular walls! It's just 10 minutes driving from Castellina in Chianti. Ideal for a short visit of one hour. Inside the village you'll find a small church, the historical houses of the people who live there and just few classic bars and restaurants in the square. Also you'll be able to walk upstair the medieval walls. Outside of the village, close to the free way there is a bar-restaurant "Bar dell'Orso" which is famous for big sandwiches made with products of the area and "home made" piece of cakes.

Located on the top of a hill, this village is famous for the 13 medieval towers perfectly preserved! In the past they were 72 towers.. It's possible to enter in the highest one which is in the Duomo square of the village, go to the top of the tower and enjoy a stunning panorama above one of the most Tuscan countryside. Don't miss a visit at the garden above the village center, inside of the ancient walls, the small Piazza delle Erbe, an ice cream at Gelateria Dondoli in piazza della Cisterna and if you are hungry we can suggest a very small winery which is also a tuscan osteria: La Vecchia Piazza (find it in Google map).

Stunning village situated in Val d'Orcia. The historic center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Much of the significant historical and artistic heritage of Pienza is concentrated in the suggestive square dedicated to Pope Pio II, a personality who gave so much to the town, trying to make it his "ideal city" of the Renaissance. His projects, entrusted to Bernardo Rossellino, were only partially completed, but still remain one of the most significant examples of rational urban planning of the Italian Renaissance.

The highlight of the village is "Certaldo Alto" which is the historical and medieval part of the town with the museum of Palazzo Pretorio on the top of the main street. To reach Siena you can drive the Chianti road or take the free way from Monteriggioni (otherwise you can also drive the Cassia road from Monteriggioni). Siena is not a big city but a big town, so usually there are no problem of traffic and parking close to the center is very easy. We suggest you the parking close to the stadium, around the fortress of Siena. The main street of the center is Via Banchi di Sopra. From here you can reach Piazza del Campo with the Torre del Mangia and Palazzo Pubblico. From the square you can easily walk to the Duomo. You no need transportation to visit Siena, just walk ;) Between 2 July and 16 August, for the Palio event we are able to book for you the general rehearsal dinner in the Valdimontone district of Siena knowing in advance. This service has to be paid. Same things in case you are interested to book seats on the stage or terrace to watch the Palio, most famous event (Horses race) in Siena (Piazza del Campo).

Florence city center is a bit less then one hour from the house. It depends by the traffic you'll find in Florence. There are some private garages in the center that you can book directly checking in Google Map. Otherwise we suggest these two payments parkings: Parcheggio Sant'Ambrogio or Parcheggio Beccaria (Google Map). Using these two parking you'll be able to avoid the most traffic part of the town and you will drive also the street that passes from Piazzale Michelangelo (where you can stop to admire Florence city center and the old bridge) from the panoramic terrace. Consider that in Florence there are no free parking. You can just walk through the center with no use transportation, the city center it's not so big and you'll be able to reach all sites of interest: Uffizi Gallery, Museo dell'Accademia, The Cathedral, Ponte Vecchio, San Lorenzo market, Piazza Santa Croce. Don't miss a visit to the Oltrarno area (Santo Spirito and Sant'Ambrogio).
