Food Scene

Nicos tacos is not a restaraunt, really. It's what the rest of the US dreams of when they have to go to Taco Bell. It's the real thing- Mexican fast food, open 6am- 10pm everyday. My favorite that I rarely get bc it's.... basically a heart attack in a wrapper- is the potato egg and cheese burro. SO. GOOD.

www.dbg.org This botanical garden is a great space to walk around and in a relatively small amount of area see a huge variety of desert species and some good interactive maps and activities explaining life cycles and information about the plants. The place is also an active research park so a lot of the plants you see are being monitored for scientific studies. One of my favorite places in phoenix. Often there are art and music events held there, too. Great little gift shop, too. Try the prickly pear fruit "twizzlers" made from the real fruit juice of the prickly pear. SO GOOD.

Entertainment & Activities

Ostrich farm that also has sting rays?! Also rainbow lorikeet, donkeys, ducks and Nigerian dwarf goats. A bit of a hot mess on the side of i10 right near Picacho Peak. The kind of place you go and end up possibly having fun, in the least being amused, and in the very least having some weird stories to tell your friends back home. http://www.roostercogburn.com/feed-the-critters.html

Jerome is... An antique town on the literal side of a hill. In the 20+ years I've been visiting its only gotten better. If you have a free weekend it's an incredibly cute place to visit. And it actually has a really amazing BBQ joint (Bobby D's- http://www.bobbydsbbqjerome.com). This surprised the heck out of me. Tons of boutiques, a whole store dedicated to hot sauces, a local wine store owned by the cats from Puscifer who have a local vineyard. Yeah, it's an interesting town!

My favorite city in the US. I lived there over 15 years so please ask me anything, and please do go visit if you're staying here more than a couple weeks!! Lots of local hiking, local shops, breweries, bike tours, art galleries, and just Tucson.

Not my favorite place, but they have a ton of good museums, and their First Friday Art Walk is pretty good: https://artlinkphx.org/first-fridays/ There's also as I aforementioned great museums: www.Heard.org Native American history museum, just the tops if you're interested in learning about the true local natives. https://mim.org/ The Musical Instrument Museum is an incredible place for anyone with any interest in music, how it's made, and an amazing array of instruments from around the world. Often there are live demonstrations and a great museum shop, too.
