Giulio Sturla (Chef and owner) and Christy came to New Zealand from Chile to fulfill their dream of opening a restaurant, and were drawn to Lyttelton for its community and location within the Banks Peninsula. Opening Roots in 2012, the restaurant has always been evolving, and was named Cuisine Restaurant of the Year in 2015.
The restaurant can host 35 covers a night, with set degustation menus the only option. There is a list of the seasonal produce used and that’s it, leaving the talented chefs no boundaries to cre

Mt Herbert track goes past the property and you can either start from the Valley down the street or follow the drive through the farmland. If you follow the ridge line it will meet up with the main track. The track takes about 4-5 hours return to the summit (919m ).
