Food Scene

This restaurant is our favourite for so many reasons. The food is simply wonderful and the atmosphere is great. Perfect for having drinks and dinner but also great for dropping in midday for lunch. Loved by the locals!

Noodle Station is a great little fast food restaurant where simplicity is embraced. They only have 3 courses on the menu; noodle soup with beef, noodle soup with chicken and noodle soup with vegetables. And guess what, they are incredibly delicious and tasty! Strongly recommended if you're looking to grab a quick bite.

Hlemmur Food Hall (or Hlemmur Mathöll in Icelandic) was recently developed from an old, tired bus station to this wonderful, buzzing street food market where you will find all sorts of small restaurants with various cuisines. The best bakery in town, called Braud and Co, also have a slot there. And the best news is that our apartment is only 2 minute walk away from the Food Hall.

Reykjavik Roasters at Karastigur is this lovely little, retro type coffee shop located in downtown area. In our opinion they serve the best coffee in town, hands down. No more words are needed, right? (Please note that they also have a shop in Brautarholt, which is actually closer to our apartment).

Many locals are of the opinion that Ban Thai is the best Thai restaurant in Reykjavik. We don't disagree. They have incredibly many items on the menu and great food. You should try out the Pad Thai!

French bistro, similar to Snaps but more of a café, has food all day long, i.e. ranging from breakfast to dinner. Very good. And great to sit outside on sunny days.

This is a "small courses to share" type of restaurant with a party feeling atmosphere, especially during the weekends. Loud music, young crowd etc. We really really like it.

This is the best bakery in town. Period. Everybody is going crazy about their sourdough bread. There is a bakery right next to the house where I live but we never go there. The reason is Brauð & Co. They have shops at Hlemmur Food Hall and at Frakkastigur, right next to Reykjavik Roasters café.

This is probably the most popular nightclub in Reykjavik these days (and has actually enjoyed that status for the past 5-10 years). Sought by the young folks who love to party long into the night. This is the place if that's what you're looking for.

Entertainment & Activities

Sundholl Reykjavikur is the oldest geothermal swimming pool in Reykjavik. It has an indoor and outdoor pool in addition to the incredibly nice and cozy hot tubs located outside. We strongly recommend you go there to relax after a busy day in Iceland. The pool is within 2 minute walking distance from our apartment. And no worries if you did not bring your own swimwear - they will happily rent you some!

The big, white and beautiful Hallgrimskirkja Church, located on top of the "hill" in the downtown area. It's really nice to visit the tower for the view of downtown Reykjavik. From there you can see all of the city actually.

The famous Höfði, best known as the location for the 1986 Reykjavík Summit meeting of presidents Ronald Reagan of the United States and Mikhail Gorbachev of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. That effectively was a step to the end of the Cold War. In the 1940s and 1950s, it was home to the British Embassy in Reykjavík.
