Open in this location since October 2010, this 1500 m2 gallery is housed in a renovated 19th-century building by Hans Christian Hansen. (Prior to October 2010, the gallery was located on Peiraios street on Eleftherias (Koumondourou) Square.)

The Municipal Gallery of the City of Athens is one of the oldest neoclassical buildings, created by the Danish architect Christian Hansen. Operating as a silk factory up until 1875 it gave the name of Metaxourgio to the area ("Metaxi" means silk). Renovated in 2007 by the City of Athens, in order to host the permanent collection that consists of 3.000 items of Greek artists, the Gallery also hosts different guest exhibitions.
