There is some public transportation. It's best to have a car for exploring all the beautiful local areas on both sides of the Connecticut River. A highlight is crossing the river from Chester to Hadlyme on the historic Chester/ Hadlyme ferry. Once there you will experience some of the most breathtaking sites of the river and countryside.
