One of Bangkok’s most beautiful temples is the Wat Benchamabophit, also known as “the marble temple” or Wat Ben. The official name of the temple is Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, which means “the Monastery of the fifth King near Dusit Palace”, the fifth King being King Chulalongkorn the Great (Rama V).

Often referred to as the “marble temple” in guidebooks, this architectural gem features a magnificent Buddha image, which is a copy of the highly revered Phra Buddhajinaraja, and a beautiful beamed ceiling in a dark red and gold.

Wat Benchamabophit is also known as the Marble Temple. It was built during the reign of King Rama the Fifth. This master piece consists of a lavish exterior wall with a courtyard made of Italian Marble (hence the name "Marble Temple"). It also has a well kept garden and an impressive replica of the Buddha in Wat Mahathat in Phitsanulok.
