La commune de Monreale est située à moins de dix kilomètres de Palerme et s'élève en continuité urbaine avec la capitale sicilienne, bien qu'elle soit située en position élevée par rapport à cette dernière et à la plaine de la Conca d'Oro. La ville de Monreale est mondialement connue et, en 2015, l'UNESCO a également reconnu son importance artistique et architecturale : sa célèbre cathédrale est l'un des lieux d'intérêt historique et culturel du site appelé "Palermo arabo-normanna e le cattedrali di Cefalù e Monreale". Monreale est reliée à Palerme par des bus réguliers qui permettent de s'y rendre, bien qu'avec des horaires peu fréquents.

Monreale is a town and comune in the Metropolitan City of Palermo, in Sicily, southern Italy. It is located on the slope of Monte Caputo, overlooking the very fertile valley called "La Conca d'oro" (the Golden Shell), a production area of orange, olive and almond trees, the produce of which is exported in large quantities. Monreale forms its own archdiocese and is home to Monreale Cathedral, a historical Norman-Byzantine cathedral, one of several buildings named in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a group of nine inscribed as Arab-Norman Palermo and the Cathedral Churches of Cefalù and Monreale.
