Take a self-guided walk amongst the tunnels, batteries and army barracks built on the headland to protect Auckland from feared Russian invasions with while enjoying a breath-taking view back at the city. A short documentary film plays on a loop between 8.30am and 4pm.
North Head Historical Reserve is considered to be the most significant historical coastal defence site in New Zealand.
Visiting this historic park is a fantastic place to view the harbour, port, gulf island and the city from this wonderful clifftop position.
It's a touch of nature with interesting walks, history, tunnels and great views of Rangitoto, the Hauraki Gulf and city. Just beautiful.
