when you visit the Cathedral remember to go down into the crypt which keeps the mortal remains of Saint Matthew (Salerno's patron Saint) and of Pope Gregorio VII, the only pope not buried in Rome

E' la Cattedrale Medioevale di Salerno nonchè luogo di culto di migliaia di fedeli devoti a San Matteo. Spettacolare la Cripta.

Costruito nel 1085 presenta un atrio a quadriportico romanico di ingresso alla Chiesa a tre navate. Il suo campanile arabo-normanno è alto 52m. ed è a base quadrata.
