Heart shaped beach with fine grey sand. Surrounded by cliffs and a nearby 2km hiking trail. 42 min drive.

The beach in Salmon Cove is truly special. It is a 500 metre-long sand bar that occurs where the fresh water salmon river meets the bay. You can't dig to the bottom of the remarkable black fine sand. The beach doubles in size at low tide and that is when the river is warmest for wading. At low tide you can walk out and explore the large rock in the middle of the bay, it is covered with tiny muscles and other sea life. It is worth looking up the tidal forecast and experiencing both high and low tides. It is the most relaxing place on earth. To enter the beach parking area there is a small fee per car or family. They only accept cash for payment, however in my experience if you get there and don't have cash, they will let you through :). I would also like to note that the beach is a half kilometer long and if you are going with small children it may make sense to drive the short to the beach with all of your beach gear because you still have a walk ahead to get down to the ocean or the river. It is even more of an issue in the way back when everyone is tired and hungry!
