If you want a taste of the typical kiwi country pub, the Patangata Tavern is about 20 minutes away in Central Hawke's Bay. If you look on the support beams of the roof in the main bar you will see the names of the farming stations from the district, which includes Hapua.

Located at the end of the road (6km approx) this is a cosy, rural pub run by Aaron and Rhonda. Very family orientated, serves basic hot meals. The pub dogs are friendly, it also has a garden area when the weather is nice. Pool table, and big screen. Aaron a former Magpies rugby player with lots of local rugby memorabilia for those interested to browse through.
