A 40 minute drive from Golden Lodge, the state park lies along the Applegate Trail and the 1857 gold rush. The hills and streams surrounding the Rogue River Valley were once a rich, gold mining region. There are two beautiful, tree-lined trails to choose from, the first being the River's Edge Trail, where you can hike a 1 1/4 mile route along the Rogue River. Along the trail you will find a platform for salmon and wildlife viewing near the campground/ program area. The other option is the first segment of the Rogue River Greenway Trail, a 3 1/2 mile paved, multi-use trail for biking, hiking, etc. through the park. The trail connects the park with the city of Rogue River.

There is a very nice path from the City of Rogue River Depot Street Bridge to the Valley of the Rogue State Park.

Novelist and fisherman Zane Grey used to write and fish on the Rogue River near Valley of the Rogue State Park. It's the perfect place to fish, picnic, and enjoy the river and nature! Located on the other side of the river from the Big Foot Lodge.
