The Mercado Alvalade Norte was featured by Anthony Bourdain in his food show “No Reservations” when he was in Lisbon. He went there with a famous restaurant Chef and a few days later, daily markets became trendy again. (Thank you!) This market is located near the Avenida da Igreja at Alvalade quarter. Here, instead of packed “pre-frozen” fruit, you can get real produce straight from the farmers. Now, that things are changing and we are getting a little more demanding with our food choices, this is definitely a good choice. It’s not only cheaper to buy here, but it’s definitely better. The Alvalade Market is a large market featuring all types of food from fish and seafood to fabulous fruits – and the best is that the great majority are local produce from local farmers. Here you’ll also find the famous dried codfish, a very popular fish in Portugal. There are also several bakeries with fresh baked bread. Have some fun and check it out!

This is a traditional market where people buy fresh fish with several ladies shouting about their fish :)
