Short kayak or ferry ride over to this beautiful island where the wild horses roam free . Great relaxing place to comb the beach looking for shells or enjoying some sunbathing or watching nature at its best . This island offers a lot .
Seeing these horses living in the wild is amazing. You can take you're own boat or take a quick ferry ride for the day.

It is close to Beaufort but far enough away to seem isolated. The nature trail is primitive and a self-guided trail brochure is available at the ferry (Island Ferry Service in Beaufort) and at the trailhead on Town Marsh. Visitors can also enjoy the beach, swimming (some of the calmer, shallower waters around on the Bird Shoal side), and wildlife viewing (including lots of birds and if you are lucky wild horses).
