The Cottage is located only minutes away from Onehunga Bay Reserve. The reserve features bird wild life reserve, public parks, beaches, boat ramp, water-ski lifts, cycleways, boardwalks, kids playground and adult outdoor exercise park. You can walk or bike to this reserve, there is a lagoon with a walkway around it. There is a walking bridge over the motorway to where there are earthworks going on.
