This lovely cafe in a beautiful location is just a short drive away and has been incredibly popular since opening. Serving breakfast from 9am (takeaway from 7.30) and brunch, cakes, and afternoon tea as well as delicious local coffee. Right opposite the Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve. Sailing Club holds regular Regattas throughout the season. Lovely to watch colourful sails from the banks of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Cafe with a difference, book early and you can eat in one of the carriages on the train, just turn up and you'll be either in the station building itself or have a table on the platform. Good food. Dog friendly.

Bassenthwaite Lake Station Cafe, opposite Bassenthwaite Lake / Wythop turning, CA13 9YL. Tasty breakfasts, lunches, afternoon tea and evening meals on a converted steam train. Very popular so booking advised. Surrounded by woods and a short distance from Bassenthwaite Lake, it’s located just off the A66 at Wythop. The carriages are wider than a normal train as this one featured in the film Murder on the Orient Express so needed to accommodate a film crew as well as the actors.
