The church of Santa Cecilia, built in the 14th century and frescoed at the beginning of the 16th century by the best artists of the Bentivoglio Court - the family who reigned the city for almost a century - is one of the most beautiful examples of the Bolognese Renaissance.

It is not a church and it is not a museum. It is the oratory of Santa Cecilia, you can find it in Via Zamboni, next to Piazza Verdi and it is attached to the church of San Giaccomo Maggiore. It is not much bigger than a room, but there you can admire the frescoes of the greatest Bolognese painters of the Renaissance: Francesco Francia, Lorenzo Costa, Chiodarolo, Tamaroccio, Bagnacavallo, Pupini and my favorite, Amico Aspertini. You can't absolutely miss it! And it's free!! Non è una chiesa e non è un museo. E' l'oratorio di Santa Cecilia, lo trovate in Via Zamboni, di fianco a Piazza Verdi ed è adossato alla chiesa di San Giaccomo Maggiore. E' poco più di una sala, non tanto grande, che accoglie gli affreschi dei più grandi pittori bolognesi del Rinascimento: Francesco Francia, Lorenzo Costa, Chiodarolo, Tamaroccio, Bagnacavallo, Pupini ed il mio preferito, Amico Aspertini. Assolutamente da non perdere. Ed è gratis!!
